Natural Therapies to Prevent and Relieve Migraines

Migraine is a disorder that is set apart from others by its symptoms of intense attacks of a throbbing headache that is just on one side, sensitivity to both sound and light, nasal congestion, nausea, and cloudy thinking among others.

Migraines can be hard to treat medically. However, combining strategies to prevent migraine attacks as well as using natural therapies can actually help manage it. Here are some proven therapies that can help you prevent and relieve migraines:

  1. Low Level Laser Therapy(LLLT) – Our Bioflex laser therapy which is simply light therapy in concentrated LED form has been extremely successful in treating migraine. Safe and non-invasive LLLT is a cutting edge choice.

  1. Homeopathy – Over the years we have been very successful with treating migraine with homeopathic remedies. Some good examples of remedies that work under certain rubrics(symptom pictures) are Belladonna, Sanguinaria and Iris Versicolor.

  1. Magnesium

Studies show that those who suffer from migraine have significantly low levels of magnesium in the blood. It is not easy to find out if you are low in magnesium because even blood tests mostly measure no more than 2% of magnesium. Many practitioners believe magnesium should be used by patients who have migraines.

  1. Chiropractic Treatments

A meta-analysis of 21 studies done in 2011 found that chiropractic treatments improve migraine headaches. Spinal manipulation therapy, specifically, has been proven to relieve migraines.

  1. Acupuncture

For centuries, this has been practiced in China to treat migraine. In 2015, a Cochrane review of 22 trials concluded that there is constant evidence that when added to routine care, acupuncture offers additional benefits to the treatment of acute migraine attacks. Other studies also note that it is more effective and much safer than metoprolol and flunarizine.

  1. Exercise

Physical activities greatly improve migraine symptoms. Two forms of exercise that have been proven to effectively improve migraines are yoga and qijong.

  1. Gingko Biloba

In Italy, a study of 24 adolescents found that a constituent of ginkgo biloba which is Ginkgolide B was an efficient preventive treatment for the reduction of migraine frequency. Additionally, it lessened the need to take migraine medications.

  1. B Vitamins

A study that is published in Neurology found that getting high-doses of riboflavin (vitamin B2) can help prevent migraine. Also, a case report from the Mayo Clinic found that a patient’s migraine attacks dramatically responded to a course of vitamin B3 or niacin.
