Statins: Do Their Benefits Really Outweigh the Risks?

It appears like the chemical war against statin drugs is still raging – and it is no wonder, as a study uncovers statistical deception as well as more than 300 documented adverse effects in the biomedical literature buried deep and covered up.

If you come from a family with a history of heart disease, chances are, you either take statin drugs or buy them for your parents or siblings. This particular medication is given to patients who need to achieve lower cholesterol levels and want to prevent heart disease.

In medical literature, claims around “relative risk reduction” is gaining popularity. What it does is let 100 people be treated with statin for just one person to benefit from it. When they show the minute drop from 2% to 1% heart attack rate, they call it a 50% reduction. While that is not mathematically incorrect, the effect of the words used is quite misleading. Is a 1% improvement really a 50% decrease?

It is somehow disorienting that the medications most people take for the reason that it is “better safe than sorry” are the same ones that are considered among the most toxic chemicals that are willfully ingested. If you know that they have over 300 adverse health effects, would you be so willing to take them?

According to published medical literature, there are at least 28 modes of toxicity associated with statins, like myotoxicity, neurotoxity and hepatoxicity. Add to that a potential disruption of the endocrine system, promotion of cancer and diabetes, and a probable birth defect, among others.

Another alarming finding is that statins are linked to depression and cognitive dysfunction, as well as suicide. Perhaps it is because the brain is the most cholesterol-rich organ in the body – cholesterol and saturated fat provide that needed rigidity in balance, and without them, the membrane becomes dysfunctional and porous. In such situation, is a lower cholesterol level really the more desirable goal for a psychiatric patient?

It is very easy for people to take medications like statins, especially if they come with the promise of better health and a lower risk of serious complications. But instead of readily popping pills though, why not target the root of everyone’s concern? A sedentary lifestyle leads to health complications. Chemically produced medication, whatever they may be would always have adverse effects.

Perhaps it’s time you consider the wonderful benefits of a more natural approach. A total body cleansing is a good way to start ridding your body of toxins that come from the unhealthy food you eat and the synthetic drugs you take. A consultation would determine the best course of action you can take to bring back your health! If you’re ready to achieve better health, give us a call and we’d be happy to help you!
