How much do you know about your lymphatic system? If you are like most people, then your answer would probably be “not much”.
Your lymphatic system is made up of a network of vessels carrying lymph, which is a clear fluid that carries nutrients to the cells and delivers cellular waste to your bloodstream. The wastes are then carried to the colon, kidneys, and lungs to be eliminated.
If your lymphatic system gets clogged, you might experience back pain, constipation, depression, fatigue, weight gain, and other symptoms.
One way to make sure lymph is flowing properly is by exercising. These exercises can aid in the release of blockages and help maintain healthy movement of both nutrients and waste in your body:
Pelvic Tilt
While lying on your back, clasp your hands behind your head. Bend both of your knees and plant your feet firmly on the floor, hip-distance apart. Start tucking your tailbone under as you press the small of your back into the floor. Slowly release. Repeat the exercise 10 times.
Leg Falls
Still on your back and your knees bent, lower your right knee slowly toward the floor. Do this by letting it fall with control to the side. Slowly bring it back to the center. Do the same with your left leg and knee. Perform the exercise five times on each leg.
Ankle Pumps
While you are still on your back, have your arms and legs flat on the floor. Slowly inhale and flex your left ankle. Exhale and extend the ankle, flexing and pointing your toes. Do the same with your right ankle and toes.
Shoulder Shrug
Sit in a comfortable position. Inhale as you draw your shoulders up. Exhale and release your shoulders so you have them back in a neutral position. Repeat this for five times.
Neck Rotation
You can sit or stand for this exercise. Inhale and slowly turn your head to the right. Hold this position for five to ten seconds. Exhale as you bring your head back to the center. Repeat on the left side. You can do five repetitions for this exercise.
Doing these exercises can help keep your lymphatic system working properly. If you do these, you can avoid all the symptoms that may be caused by a congested lymphatic system.
